HOEDSPRUIT: Arrests made following local business robbery

Three suspects aged between 32 and 38, believed to be involved in the robbery of Dunn’s clothing store in Hoedspruit which occurred on Tuesday, October 16 were tracked down and arrested in Namakgale on Friday.

During the arrest the following recoveries were made: three cellphones, two empty boxes of cellphones, two portable speakers, one shirt from the store and a white VW Jetta vehicle.

The arrest of the trio follows an incident that took place inside the local clothing store, where four men wearing balaclavas threatened two employees with a firearm, tied them up and wore their uniform as a disguise while the fifth suspect was waiting in a vehicle.

They told customers that they were still packing stock and demanded safe keys from the employees.

The culprits managed to get away with a cash amount of R 9 400, 72 cellphones and clothes all valued at R80 000.

The police are still on a hunt for the remaining two suspects and appeal to anyone with information to contact Detective Constable Happy Mahlangu on 082 836 6696, the police emergency number 0860 010 111, Crime SMS Line 32211 or the nearest police station.

The three suspects appeared at the Hoedspruit Periodical Court on Monday, to face of charges business robbery and possession of suspected stolen property. They were identified as Victor Masiya (38), Abel Mathlamela (32) and Phillip Sithole (35).

They appeared in court again on Monday, November 5.
